I spent a livein weekend at Norlands in the 80's taking the part of Pa Pray. Though I have a BS in history with emphasis on US, I learned a lot about the our country in the 1870's while at Norlands.report abuse

The barn and farmer's cottage were both old buildings and contained a lot of antiques which, while not irreplaceable, are not available at Wal Mart. Building and contents were insured, but still, the loss is terribly sad.

Some of the comments left have been downright ignorant, but that's not the point. This is a beautiful historic landmark and it has suffered a great loss. I grew up near the Norlands, spent much time playing there as my family volunteered, later volunteered myself and even had my wedding there because I love the place so much. Many people have worked very hard to keep the place running for years. It is a great asset to the community and to our state. I don't have much money to give but am sending a donation to contribute to the rebuilding fund. I urge others to do the same. It will take the generosity of many to provide the funding for this important endeavor. Mail can be sent to Norlands Living History Center, ATTN: Nancy Drinkwine, 290 Norlands Road, Livermore, ME 04253. They need donations of money as well as grain, hay and other goods. To find out more about how you can help call the main #897-4366.
