I think this is a great idea! This way, we can just hand the list over to the IRS and social service agencies and have all these names removed from receiving an economic stimulus check or any other federal benefit. Our government is not a selective process. We don't get to pick and choose the things we want to comply with and ignore the others. PS. What's the big deal anyway? The information from the documents we will now have to provide is already available to the government from other means like the IRS. Why would a law-abiding Mainer have a problem complying.report abuseMainelyJack

Bill - the next time the bad guys get lucky, I will be sorry if you are on that flight, but I know you will be happy that you didn't have to show Real ID. Happy Trails, fella.report abuseSnowbird1

My wife and I were scheduled to take the American Airlines flight out of Boston that flew into the World Trade Center. We were going exactly 2 weeks later.
Maybe you should see if you can find some sympathetic ears among the families of the 3000 people who died that day.
Many overseas countries have much stricter rules and inspection for boarding flights. Can you remember the last time an Israeli airline was hijacked?
So it's a little inconvenient, but so is death.
Also, what part of the word illegal don't you understand?report abuse

I support the people's veto as a demonstration of citizenship. "We the People" obviously didn't learn anything from Franklin and his warnings about security and liberty, "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." The Essential Liberty here is fighting the tyranny of the Homeland Security Administration and all of the subsequent invasions of our privacy and restriction of movement. If you think I am exagerating this claim, try to board a plane without having to remove your shoes or bring toothpaste on a trip. And so, because we are so weak, we submit to these physical assaults while our Essential Liberties are gradually taken away until the point where we submit to Government intrusion without question. A guy who is backed up by an armed Portland police officer tells you to take off your shoes, open your private property for inspection, and PROVE that you, the paying customer and citizen is NOT a suspect is absolutely ridiculous. Meanwhile, the real bad guys are playing the game and slipping through the "security" forces. Do you think someone like "Jason Bourne" obtains their licenses, passports, money, and other official documents through regular channels? Do you think someone with a jewelers loop and fancy flashlight is going to actually stop a bad guy? The other day, I was checked all the way through security at PWM with a boarding pass that neither originated or terminated in Portland!!! These guys who are looking at our identification aren't even reading the most important travel document close enough to know where you are coming from or going to. Absolutely crazy. The TSA and HSA are a huge waste and only serve to annoy and harass the US citizens. Don't Tread on ME!report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment.
