Have children become more deaf since I was a kid? When I was 6yo, there were two ice cream trucks in our area: Good Humor which was "diga-linga-ling" and Mr. Softee which was just "Ding!" I could tell you which truck was on which block, which way he was headed, if he's already past the house, and if I could catch him by jumping the back yard neighbor's fence. I didn't need 100 watts RMS of screaming obnoxious music played in a 10 second loop.report abuse

Reader - There are no Republicans on the Portland City Council. You can take that to the bank. They are a totally Democrat operation, like San Francisco to which they compare themselves.report abuse

Dudes, the ice cream trucks in Portland have gotten wicked aggressive the last couple of summers. They're wicked loud, and sometimes wicked fast, and one dude parks the truck, gets out and has a couple of smokes while the music is blaring loud enough to hear a couple blocks away. It's always when I'm trying to have a nap so I've been too groggy so far to go out and punch him in the head. And I gotta question who they let drive the trucks. Some drivers can't have more than a few years' experience - and they're out zooming around corners and down busy streets w/ kids running around on limited sidewalk space. One took out an oak tree on Congress when he was pulling up to some kids. Talk about expense to the tax payers.

I don't know. I think they're more appropriate in suburbia, where I grew up. You could hear them coming in time to get out of the way, and our parents would have a fit if they came around more than once a day. Here in Portland, we're like the Beatles trying to ditch our fans.report abuse
