I hit a large tree at 70+ miles an hour, on my door, with my seatbelt on. I would have been torn in pieces if I was thrown from the car. The car protected me the way it was designed to, because I remained buckled inside of it. Auto companies should design cars so that they cant be put into drive unless the buckle is fastened.report abuse

My condolences go out to your family at this difficult time. And at no time was I saying your cousin was stupid or ignorant by any means. I apologize if it came across that way. Unfortunately people forget to buckle up all the time. I too have pulled into traffic without my seatbelt on and realized it later. I'm lucky nothing happened at that time. We are only human and humans do make mistakes. But those that honestly feel they are safer without a seatbelt, are completely ignorant. I feel very strongly about that statement.report abuse
