We started this mess and now we find that if we leave all hell breaks loose. Maybe we should have known? The problem I see is that these wars are bankrupting our country. If they go on for another 5 or 10 years we will owe so much money to foreign lenders that they will own us.
I'm not an expert, but does anyone else have a really bad feeling in the pit of their stomach about this?
Our country as we know it, is, I believe, in much worse trouble than any of the powers that be will tell us.report abuse

I worded that wrong, what I should have said is: Tom Allen "stood up" last summer for a complete withdrawal of all troops and that was his plan he wanted to use to run for the Senate. That's why I don't understand why he's now coming up with a new withdrawal plan without acknowledging that his plan announced last summer would have ended up with much of southern Iraq and Baghdad under the influence of Iran?report abuse

Allen seems hypocritical if not downright dishonest and Maine can and must do better.report abuse

How ARROGANT, Alan M. Only you understand, correct? Some of us care about others. Perhaps it's you who doesn't understand. I suppose you wouldn't have wanted to save the Jews from the camps either. What an "imperialistic" war that was! Somehow people like you want us in the Balkins and Darfur and in Tibet, but you don't give a flip about the 2/3 of the people Sadaam tortured, killed and/or denied rights to! Amazing! What were you doing when he gassed all the Kurds in the streets? Were you out with your family being "understanding?"

Allen is a loser. The men and women in the service are not coming home from this war anytime soon SO YOU FUND THEM UNTIL THEY DO COME HOME. Anything less creates danger for them. SHAME on Mr. Allen for grandstanding with their lives. I don't like the war and never supported it until C. Powell spoke (& we know what bull that turned out to be), but I DO KNOW THAT WE DON"T CUT AND RUN when national security and the very lives of the people of Iraq are at stake!

We left Afghanistan once we chased out the Russians. We allowed it to fall to the Taliban. We got 911 because of it. Did we learn NOTHING from leaving a country in ruin???

It's you, Alan M, who doesn't understand. You don't think into the future. Imagine the terrorists in Iraq with all the oil and oil revenue. What do you think they'll buy? Who do you think they'll aim it at? Try Israel and the U.S.! Leaving an unstable IRAQ is NOT an option. Get a clue, please.report abuse
