This is funny - a bunch of state employees who are NOT on Dirago suddenly show up here to support it?

Calling Dirigo "effective" is nonsense. The program is a complete and utter failure by any objective measure you want to choose.
How about this. How about we implement the reforms in LD 2247 and see what that does? Democrats have joined the Republican bandwagon that those reforms are going to lower health insurance by as much as 40% - took them 8 years to get on board but hey, there they are now.
It isn't about being bitter, it's is about people being able to take care of themselves. Not having the tax payers take care of them and then having the likes of you call that them "taking care of themselves". If they were taking care of themselves they wouldn't be needing the tax payers to fund their health insurance now would they!report abuse

Kany, perhaps if you actually read the legislation you would know there is also a nice new surcharge on paid health claims - but not by those national chains that self insure. Tell me, is it really going to be good for Maine business to have to subsidize Wal-Mart?

Remember: Maine spends $8 billion in health care per year. The reported Dirigo savings represents 1/40th of that.
Do you actually think it's fewer than 1 in 40 Mainers who is without health coverage?
Suddenly, a $70 million tax doesn't sound so bad. Wait, doesn't that mean $70 per person for all of the sodas and beers they buy. Could it be that number is a complete lie?report abuse

Felix: as long as we have tens of thousands of people in Maine without health insurance, I think finding revenues to help cover them is critical.

OF it saved 190 million then when are we getting our rebates or making the State employees on Dirigo, if I recall your union whined about going on Dirigo so that will never happen. so much for takeng it for the teamreport abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment.
