Most of this stuff that they want spent the money on is stupid and could be sold off or run on donations from the people in the community - if the people really want it. Right now is not the time to pull out all this stuff and expect the taxpayers to accept it.
If they don't have the money for what was cut in the budget. Then what are they thinking now???
And in regards to Deering Oaks. Time to close it off until the homeless are gone. Hhhmmm, that could be forever.report abuse

Lets not borrow any pay for them out of pocket and lower taxes by cutting spending on social programs that the actual tax base hardly ever use.report abuseMike

I went to the Park in Falmouth, behind Walmart and next to the outdoor Ice Arena. No druks, no homeless defecating, no one asking me for money,no one passed out on the ground - I did see a lttle girl and her daughter on a blanket having a picnic. What the heck am I doing still living in Portland and paying taxes 20% higher than those who live in the town that borders my property. They get better services, have a better school system and have clean parks, while paying much lower taxes. It is getting more difficult everyday to justify staying in Portland.report abuseMike

All of you who are discussing this issue, and want the City Council to discuss this issue, should be ashamed. Don't you realize that we have more important topics for the City to duscuss, such as Gitmo? How rude and thoughtless that you would want the City Council to make the City's business a priority. Has Obama taught you nothing?report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment. Register or log in.
