"I sentence you...to...10 years! But wait! --Wait, you didn't wait! Ok, ready now? Because you're going to love me for this. I'M ONLY SENTENCING YOU FOR 2 1/2 YEARS! YAY!" [drop balloons and confetti, pipe happy music] "YAY! Isn't that great? Cause you deserve a break, Buddy. Happy light Punishment Day, Friend! Yippee!"report abuseNonny1

People who shoot into a dwelling (was the woman or anyone else home?) and try to burn down buildings when angry over a breakup or other NORMAL occurance in life are VERY DANGEROUS. I would hate to be this man's former girlfriend; she must be frightened to learn that this felon will be out of prison VERY soon. The recidism rate for his "type" is high...report abuse

MCCrackin, my guess is that the Maine politicians have put pressure on the courts to keep people out of jail (to save money, etc). Last month I posted the 2006 in-house "work" of the Dept of Corrections where it talked about "alternative sentencing." It listed alternative sentencing in other states (Oregon, California, NY, etc) and proposed the same policies in Maine. Nowhere in the entire report did it mention the successes or shortcomings of each (apparently that didn't matter). The goal was obvious: keep offenders out of prison.

The bum reminds me of the fat arse in Shawshank Redemption that started crying on his first night in jail, calling out for his mommy.report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment. Register or log in.
