In any case, why do Maine politicians do flips and twists to save a business that employs 413 people, but they'll balk at something like an LNG terminal that'll employ a pile of people and held reduce our dependence on heating oil.report abuse

They employ 413 people, but there were representatives from 13 unions at the meeting? That's an average of 31 employees to each union. I must be missing something here.

A wood gasifier would provide 30% more energy from the same amount of wood; and can run on brush, and green 'waste' that can be hauled from dumps around Maine. A pyrolysis based plant would be able to consume tires, shingles and other high BTU fedstock; and as a bonus consume toxic and hazardous waste.
Oh well, it's more government bail-out money, what did you expect...Innovative use of technology?report abuse

Biomass boilers will continue the practice of clear cutting, chipping and chip drying...all fuel intensive.
