Tom Allen's campaign is trying hard to make him appear as a "go-getter" member of Congress, however the problem is that's not his reputation in Congress. He is also faced with Collins carefully using her advantage as a moderate to choose policy decisions which minimize Allen's perceived strengths. Allen mostly seems to advocate policies selected for him by the Progressive (Democratic) caucus in the House, which is very liberal. That created a problem when the caucus advocated not funding some major weapon systems, including a third DDG-1000 destroyer.

On the other hand, one observer for the Department of Homeland Security said Collins has become almost non-political, which allows here to pick and chose positions to Allen's disadvantage. However ultimately it comes down to who can deliver for Maine voters on the issues we care about, and there the poll clearly got it right. it's unfortunate Collin's campaign web-site doesn't list the industry advocacy awards she has won, because it would probably surprise some voters.report abuse
