I'll bet the Maine Christian Civic League would endorse Republicans 90% of the time.report abuse

MEA has consistently supported politicians who are pro-education. If there were a Republican who opposed vouchers, who wanted to protect kids, and who realized that religion doesn't belong in public school classrooms, MEA would endorse that person -- in fact HAS endorsed Olympia! many times in her career. Having had an inside view of how the MEA endorses, I can say unequivocally that the party of the nominee has nearly nothing to do with the endorsement -- it's the POSITION of the nominee, NOT the PARTY that counts. And that's why the MEA endorses Democrats far more often than Republicans. Too many Republicans want to dismantle the public schools, provide vouchers, and promote religious education, all of which would not strengthen schools but rather would weaken them.
