How many can actually afford to retire any more? Maybe ex-politicians and state workers, but the rest of us will be working until we drop.report abuse

Alden: Amen. I retired (modestly)and recently had to go back to work because I couldn't make ends meet, with the rising cost of everything. These are supposed to be the Golden Years. I tried to save for retirement, but my annuities ended up drained after the trials and tribulations of the late eighties and entire nineties. So, I pulled my annunities out at retirement and they were less than I had invested in 1987! I now have five thousand dollars left in a savings account and am scared to death about heating my home for the winter.report abusebob smith
