Gerald, I would agree with Instant Runoff so long as it's not following the Australian system. There was a Senator in Australia who was elected with only 2 percent of the primary vote, but because of their 'preferential system' actually ended up winning. I'm surprised by today's decision and disappointed in the Dems for bringing the suit in the beginning. I'll probably still vote for Allen but it will with some reluctance.report abusedave

I would have voted for Allen but after this event i would never vote for allan and i will have to vote for Collins evan though i do not want her . Vote for Susan .report abuseGerald Weinand

I'm going to guess the Collins team is surprised too.
As I've mentioned before, if Instant Runoff Voting were used in Maine, if one wanted to overlook the legal merits of this case (and there obviously were some) then none of this would have been necessary. Those that support Hoffman could vote for him and then mark Tom Allen as their second candidate, knowing that their vote would not have been "wasted."
Bot the Dems and the GOP refuse to see the wisdom of adopting IRV, and so continue to find themselves in quandaries like this, or in the case of the GOP, the 2006 gubernatorial primary result.report abuse
