I completely agree Kimber45. If Congressman Tom Allen is concerned about Maine's economics, he should vote to allow drilling immediately, and neither he, nor any member of Congress, should have left for vacation without adequately addressing this issue. Many Mainers and Americans can't even afford to take vacations because of the price of oil. He and the others (mostly Democrats) who are refusing to allow drilling are playing political games with the families of Mainers and all Americans. Just talk of drilling has caused the price of oil to drop significantly. The democrats, who claim to be for working people, are so out of touch with working people -- he's talking about transportation improvements(?), the internet and the environment (?) in order to help Maine's economy when many Mainers are just trying to pay for gas, food, heat, school clothes, etc. It is inexcusable to take a month-long vacation, when people are choosing between buying food or buying gas to get to work. Not to mention how the high gas prices will only further hurt the "other Maine," which is already economically depressed. People living in rural Maine can not use mass transportation to work or go to school -- they must drive -- and many of these people already live paycheck to paycheck because so much industry has left rural Maine (discussion for another day!). Enough said . . . I have to go to work to pay all of the taxes the democrats have imposed!report abuseKimber45

Congressman Allen should go back to Washington and help allow "drill here and now" to happen. Congress doesn't deserve a 5-week paid vacation right now.report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment. Register or log in.
