Baldacci's and Wykes' efforts to consolidate state government's information technology, human resources and accounting services have resulted in larger, more expensive and less customer-friendly service agencies. The $53 million Medicaid payment system fiasco and the $13 million lost on the Mainsail II investment are just the most visible examples of the Baldacci administration's financial management expertise.
With Wyke paving the way to UMS, I'm afraid Baldacci won't be far behind.report abuse

However that didn’t bother the Committee on Utilities and Energy where only Rep. Herbert Adams, D-Portland, and Rep. Lawrence Bliss, D-South Portland, dared vote against Cashman’s nomination. Public utilities lawyers should have no problem bamboozling Cashman, who doesn’t even seem to have the qualifications to be a PUC staff analyst.
In comparison to Cashman’s lack of qualifications, PUC Commissioner Sharon Reishus worked as a PUC staff analyst from 1991 to 1998 and then from 1998 until her appointment to the commission Reishus worked at the Cambridge Energy Research Associates as director of North American Power. The other PUC Commissioner is Vendean Vafiades, a former chief judge of Maine's District Court and former chief deputy attorney general and counsel to the University of Maine System.report abuse

What we wanted was for Baldacci to withdraw the nomination of Jack Cashman for a seat on the Public Utilities Commission. Cashman spent most of his working life in the real estate development and insurance business, which obviously has nothing to do with regulating public utilities. In fact Cashman’s sole qualification for the job seem to be he is a close crony of Baldacci.
