Bucky, these are trade schools, they hid them under the name of Community Colleges so they could gather more federal funding, in matching improvement grants. I simply don't understand the math of students though...if you could take 90% of your core requirements at 40% the cost...why wouldn't you? Many colleges will soon feel the credit crunch, probably next fall...students and parents will no longer be able to borrow 25k / year to attend a college and yes they are borrowing those amounts.report abuse

Never ceases to amaze me at how "surprised" state officials are at these things.

Hey bucky, go here

http://www.smccme.edu/docs.php?section=1&navid=55&docid=151

and see the list of "trades" offered at SMCC they include - Automotive, computer, construction, electrical, fire science, heating, AC, plumbing, refrigeration, heavy equipment and tons of medical related programs. So, I am not sure which trades you want them to include...report abuse

The numbers from Washington County are telling. It makes the concept official that not only is the economy there poor, but it frankly just doesn't exist. We should evacuate the whole region, make it part of Acadia, and save the state a fortune in costs.report abuse
