The Cat has cut their season short every single year they have been running out of Portland, even when the boats were full. Two years ago we made reservations to go to Nova Scotia for 10 days in October, had reservations at multiple bed and breakfasts around the island. This was going to be our major vacation for the year. We found out about the Cat's decision to stop running a week early from AAA. I was NOT impressed. Neighbors of ours ended up in exactly the same situation last year.

The Cat needs to set a reasonable schedule, taking into account that once school starts, summer vacation is over for many travelers, so they can cut back on the number of trips. There is a major event in October in Nova Scotia that pretty much sells everything out early and it certainly doesn't make a lot of sense to me that the Cat would not be available for that, because the business would be there. Once they set a schedule, they need to be respectful of their customers needs and schedules or they will lose customers. My family is living proof of that....we won't rely on the Cat again.

On a high note....if you want to vacation in Nova Scotia, simply call their tourism office and they will assist you in making reservations at all points throughout your stay (because we made the reservations with them, we were also able to cancel everything with one phone call). I was exceptionally impressed with the service they provide.report abuse

The weather didn't kill the Cat, the high price of gas killed it. The Cat appealed to people coming from away who were visiting New England and planned a stop in Nova Scotia.

Trips to New England were simply canceled.

The Cat did better than expected in June.report abuse
