Pamela,
I happen to live on the same road, and I have almost been hit a number of times because I slowed down to turn into my own driveway...not by big rigs, but SUV's, sedans, pick-up trucks, you name it. In fact, more than once while turning left into my driveway, the driver behind me passed ON THE LEFT because they paid no attention to my turn signal or brake lights. Thank goodness I use my mirrors so I know what's going on behind me. Almost everyone drives too fast on this road, while not paying enough attention to what's going on around them. Also, 80,000lbs is the limit on almost ALL interstates...not just Maine. You also need to consider that many of these trucks have to travel far off the interstate in order to pick up and/or deliver their loads. I have to agree with Mr. Miller, the truck most likely wouldn't even have been involved had the poor man's car not been pushed into the other lane.report abuse

Pamela;
Your comments, though well intentioned have NOTHING to do with the case at hand. If the Truck was overloaded he should be fined for overweight. If he was speeding he should be fined for speeding; neither of which were ever mentioned in this story. The truck and driver bear NO RESPOSIBILITY in this case. The driver did everything possible to stop, going so far as to head for a ditch on the side of the road. He flipped his truck over . He tried his best not to kill someone. The driver of the car thsat slammed into the other car and pushed itt into the path of the truck, bears all the reponsibility in this case.
Wheather a cell phone , radio, A/C, or just daydreaming, his actions took another man's life.
He should be charged with vehicular MANSLAUGHTER, or perhaps NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE.report abuse
