But for the national statistics that a disproportionate amount of black people are in prison over white people: you're still not getting that racism is the root of this evil situation the rest of the nation is in. People still aren't affording the same opportunities to "blacks" that the "whites" get on a daily basis. Imagine if it was found out that McCain's parents are "black," and he just happened to be born of white skin: he's then lose a significant portion of the votes he would have otherwise.
A lot of people, at this point, black people and white, are too far gone to rehabilitate and commit crimes that warrant life imprisonment. But perpetuating the cycle of racism isn't going to help the next generations to have a fair shot.
Reach out and do your best to mentor before you hope to convince me the problem doesn't stem from the white people in this country.report abuse

Jeff - whites are ALWAYS in the news for heinous crimes too.

Well no sh** Sherlock. This state is also 99.9% white, so it would be pretty crazy if the majority of crimes weren't committed by whites. I agree with Deb. The statistics point for themselves. Blacks are a minority, yet they are ALWAYS in the news for heinous crimes. Look at our prison population nationwide, mostly blacks. Call me racist or whatever you want, but it's just the facts. I don't see a black guy and automatically hate them, BUT as a general rule, blacks are more likely to be criminals than whites.report abuse

I take offense at all these racial comments. Totally uncalled for. While too lazy to look up the stats, I will bet that there are FAR more crimes committed in Maine that involve WHITE perps than any other nationality, race or creed. Greasy white folk are committing most of the crimes around here....isn't even close.report abuseOphilia
