Actually, the HS&GA Committee, which Collins chaired for over four years, is taksed with oversight of ALL Federal contracts. While it is true that they normally do not look into DoD contracts, those that were let by the Fed for the occupation and reconstruction of Iraq were NOT DoD related.
Collins should have been very involved in the oversight of this. But she wasn't. And it cost you, and me, and every other taxpayer, billions of dollars.
Here is the site that lists all the hearings that the committee has held. Read for yourself:

Are you saying that Rockland is the size of a postage stamp? Because Rockland had a larger population than Wasilla when Palin was mayor, and while we don't have a kick-a$$ hockey arena, we also don't have $27 million in debt either.report abuse

"But a spokesman for Collins says she did hold a hearing on contractor abuse, and that her efforts helped to prevent the elimination of an independent auditor who briefed her committee 12 times."
---
Collins held ONE hearing on the waste, fraud, and outright theft that has now defined the occupation of Iraq.
ONE.
She did find time to investigate fist class airlines that were not used by the Pentagon; and she also had time to look into empty Federal office buildings; and she even found time to investigate 'diploma mills.'
But while your tax dollars were pouring into the coffers of Halliburton, Blackwater, KBR, Bechtel, etc., Collins couldn't be bothered to investigate that.
In her defense, Joe Lieberman hasn't done much either. But then, McCain wanted to nominate him as VP, not Sarah Palin.
Susan Collins, enabling the friends of Cheney to get rich from your tax dollars.report abuse
