A 60 year old man was killed recently just crossing the road in Durham---by a Maine driver. Oh please, all of you who put on your piety hats and angel wings pretending that every Mainer with a driver's license is the personification of vehicular virtue. Nothing could be farther from the truth. One single example, which happens almost daily: on my way up Route 125 yesterday I got aggressively tailgated by TWO people with MAINE license plates who were ticked off because I wouldn't go speeding through the very same section where the poor gentleman was run over. The limit goes from 45 to 35, but just about EVERYBODY with a MAINE license plate does 50-65 along this stretch. I wish the State Police would set up speed traps there and start raking in some money for the state. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel. I'm sick of all the jerks, Maine drivers included, who tailgate and drive aggressively behind someone who is observing the legal speed limit. It's at times like those you wish you had a Bond car and could drop a load of sharp tacks behind you....report abuse

Jonathan,

Thank you. Too many people ignore the meaning of the word "accident." They do happen. Pedestrians have a duty to watch out for themselves and act responsibly as well.report abuse

What about Steve McKenney (from Maine) who was killed this past winter by the Massachusetts driver? Then the Mass. driver kept going and went to a restaurant and had a few drinks, then went back to the scene but couldn't get near it because the road was blocked? Up in my area, most of the time when someone passes recklessly (sometimes on the right even), turning corners too fast, horn blowing, and so on, it is a Mass. registration plate. Another thing they do is move up here when they have a child who gets into a lot of trouble, thinking they can straighten out in Maine, only to bring their crimes to Maine kids. I wish they would just stay home period and mind their own business.report abuse
