now folks.we dont know if the patient was "mentally challenged" as some of you stated. I see Dr.Ruffner and I'm not "mentally challenged." I am 100% stable and would be completely fine owning a firearm.Who's to say the patient he sold it to wasnt a hunter? He may have already owned guns.Dr Ruffner makes a point to get to know his patients and their interests. He obviously wasnt selling him a gun thinking he'd go do something terrible with it.The "unethical" part was him doing side business w/a patient according to maine ethics laws.He is a great Dr who made a mistake. No lives were lost. Life goes on. I will certainly continue seeing him. People may want to think before they bash someone they dont know. that is ignorant. "unethical business practices" has been defined as: not conforming to approved standards of social or professional behavior.it usually isnt socially acceptable to bash someone you dont know, especially when you dont know all of the facts..report abuseBunni

Bobby Washington: Please re-read the article. It says the doctor sold the gun to "a patient under his psychiatric care". He violated the most basic ethics of psychiatry. One does not willingly give a gun to a mentally challenged person. The Licensing Board should have taken his license and barred him from ever practicing again .report abuseBack Woods

Now that is a psych that is forward thinking. Give this guy an award and have him write a book. I'm pro choice too, I choose to own guns!! What is the problem with this? It doesn't say tha the buyer of the gun was crazy or a harm to himself or others. Do people who see a shrink automatically become dangerous?report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment. Register or log in.
