Do it for the children. Ban backpacks, lunch boxes, gym bags, shoulder bags, purses. They are just too plain dangerous. Remember people, it's inanimate objects that we must fear. Fear the object, not the actions of the criminal. You have been brought into the collective. Baaaaaaa!!!report abuse

Laptops:
Have you seen the cost of text books?
Students are "given" about $500 in textbooks.
If it was a reader only laptop, the cost would be lower. Not to download music, play games and go on line. Maybe the students would read their assignments.
This would only be for the higher grades.report abuse

Any one see the nice PR job the Marshwood Staff did? (NOT) Not only does the first amendment stop for the students, it apparently stops for the media as well. Give me a break...while I agree this is a story more worthy of a weekly freebie, when you treat the press like the school staff did, you deserve everything they throw at you!!!!!report abuse

I'm all for keeping kids safe, but if a kid is going to bring a weapon or contraband to school, he is going to find a way to bring it in, with or without a backpack. As usual, the good kids get penalized because of a few bad apples. I'll bet the kids who brought those weapons into Columbine weren't carrying backpacks that day. Most of the trouble makers in my school never carried backpacks, cause they never brought their books home to do homework. They didn't care about school, good grades or getting into college. Wonder how many are many are now residing at the "Warren Hotel?"report abuse
