The state should encourage growth in the wood pellet business by loaning money to new plant operators in key areas of the state. The residents should be encouraged to use wood pellets via a tax refund or subsidy. Wood pellets cost less than a fourth of oil and they burn as efficiently as the most efficient oil furnace. Maine has enough trees to supply everyone with pellets.report abusewilliealso

Les wants to import pellet furances from Austria, assemble them in New Hampshire and sell in Maine.report abuse

Les Otten is using pellet industry figures from the Pacific Northwest, where mountains blocked the air in valleys. That is where pellet stoves started 20 years ago to get rid of sawdust from lumber mills. They do a "three card Monte", with aveage wood stove and average wood (Pine and Aspen). I have heard it for years.

Appointing Les Otten to head the "Wood-to-Energy Task Force" is remarkably similar to appointing Barney Frank and Chris Dodd to chair the bank bailout.
