These cruise ships emits high levels of particulate matter when they burn a heavy fuel oil called “bunker fuel.” In major ports like Portland, the particulate matter is particularly hazardous to children's health. As a result I believe California recently banned ships from burning bunker fuel near their coast. Unfortunately there seems no interest in such a law in Maine, just this interminable promotion of the economic benefits of cruise ships.report abuseYou must be a registered user of MaineToday.com to post a comment.
