According to a map on mainehuntingtoday.com, the Canadian Lynx's historical habitat reached as far south as Northern Mass., Penn., Ohio, and Indiana.
As far as the proposed agreement, voluntary conservation is commendable. However, the Maine Forest Products Council proposal wants to "study and portect the cats" and "landowners would continue to finance research and work with biologists to maintain a mix of habitats". In this economy, what do you think the first item in budget cuts are going to be? Do you honestly think that the REIT investors of Plum Creek are going to want to pay for this expense? Probably Not.
And "No", I am not a treehugging, granola eating environmentalist.report abuse

It is obvious that both of you have done your homework when crafting your comments. One of you a lot less than the other. You pick.

Way too many tree huggers/granolas involved here. The canada lynx was not native to Maine originally and we're on the extreme southern part of their habitat so we don't need any government involvement with how we use our land in Maine.report abuseJimH
