Let's start with retiring those that the governer let retire and then rehired immediately after who now collect two checks!!! Get rid of all thos committees to check this that and the other and then we hear nothing about it and I'm sure they collect a very hefty paycheck as well. The governor maybe should open his house to the homeless this year. Hey does he really need that motorcycle. Who's wasting our money?? Let's start in Augusta and get rid of the dead weight and let those folks trying to feed their families and keep the furnace running collect their checks because they work for them and others sit around and collect them and how do they sleep at night. Very well I suppose with that cushion under the mattress.report abuseThomas Carter

He should:
1. Declare DirigoHealth a brave experiment, noble in cause, then hit "delete" on the entire project/staff/expenses, etc. I'd almost admire him if he did that.
2. Redefine, for all Mainers, the true mission statement of state gummint. "We ain't your nanny..." We all just want good roads, decent schools, and lower taxes.
3. Lay down the law to members of the Maine Senate and House...NO NEW TAXES. PERIOD.
Make us proud, governor.report abuse

Rather than targeted, surgical budget cuts, the governor wields an across-the-board axe. Without spending a gazillion dollars to decide which programs to cut, Gov. Baldacci should exercise some bold moves.

Nursing homes will also be the first on the list too, why don't they pick on something else.
I'm sure there are those that are paid more than they need and could cut their pay.
If the State wasn't depending on stocks they have for the money used in the budget, they wouldn't be so short on money and cutting funds to programs. Who in their right mind would depend solely on just stocks to set their budget on.
Look at how many lost money on stocks when the market went way down.report abuse

Why not just stop giving the wealthy tax breaks and just charge them what they really owe so they don't cut programs that are needed for the mentally/physically disabled.
