"Shoot the blue-eyed person", said by a brown-eyed person, isn't racist. "Shoot the Asian", said by a Black or Caucasian, may well be.
Not every crime is a hate crime, only when done because of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation.
Any sort of "lottery" like this is despicable; it is not necessarily racist.report abuse

It's may be "racist" if it's done BECAUSE of one's race, not simply because one of of that race.

Funny, isn't it, how our resident left lurchers are shocked, shocked by the inappropriate sign in Standish when the assassination of President Bush was something openly wished for by this country's left wing for years. There were books, movies, art exhibits, t-shirts, pins, and posters all fantasizing about killing Bush. Where were you over sensitive hypocrites then? The left has spent the last eight years spewing hatred. Only now do they develop a sense of outrage at such vileness.report abuseTom Bulger

Maine could be tarred with the same brush by national media picking up stories of racist incidents. It seems the whole world is at least as much in love with Obama as it was with JFK, so any threats would be sensational news.
The District Attorney's office needs to nip this stuff in the bud. The competition in winning jobs is tough enough without Maine having to fight a negative image projected by a few rotten apples.report abuse

I'm sure that 99.9% of the tax paying God fearing citizens of Standish are humiliated by this notoriety. This isn't the kind of publicity that raises property values and has small businesses bringing good jobs into town.
