Digital subchannels are the Witness Protection Program of television. I suspect WCSH will put the 10PM out of its misery very soon as Gannett HQ in Virginia dictates another draconian set of cutbacks, the last of which claimed the WCSH/WLBZ weekend midday newscasts. After that, who knows...report abuse

Hey Nascar, you DO realize that the car and furniture stores..advertising on your favorite local news stations are paying for the production, camera and video, and talent, right? Otherwise, I would guess we would get our news from you tube.report abuse

TV news is a dinosaur. People don't watch and they won't watch as long as its sole purpose is to be the glue holding car and furniture store commercials together. The fine folks who sit and smile from the anchor desk might not agree, but it's the truth. There's only so many 'See your New England _______ Dealer TODAY!!' commercials we're willing to labor through before we find out that 'There's no word yet on a cause' of some fire down the street. If car dealer and furniture store commercials start declining, so too will newscasts. And although the people who run and work at these stations might disagree, the truth is that no one on my side of the fence will care much. If you bludgeon us with commercials, we'll bludgeon you with the 'change channel' button.report abuse

Gosh, darn,
You mean I can't see the crappy local news if I don't run to convert to digital?
Pretty good reason to wait, IMO.
Portland has three (well four, if you count the morning excrement of Fox) of the worst news programs ever made.
A constant diet of "we've got something really important to tell you, just come back at 11 and wait through all of our commercials and we'll tell you what it is" so-called self promotion masking as news.
Garbage. Utter garbage.
Portland news is not even of 3rd world quality.report abuse
