If he is "working" for the sherrif's office then he should be on the payroll and not sneaking through the cracks by "volunteering". Also, if he is not employeed by the sherrif's office is it legal for businesses to give out employment information?????? I doubt it, but of course with a badge you can do most anything. If so there are plenty of others out there that would volunteer to do this same job. This man was OFFERED the position because he is retired law enforcement.
He may very well be a very kind man, but the way the Sherrif's office is getting him WORK under the employment radar by calling him a VOLUNTEER is WRONG.report abuse

Who gets stuck with the bill if he has an accident while "working"? Who pays legal fees if his checking up is percieved as harassment?

I'm returning your 2 cents.
The donations help pay for his gas and what not.But he does it even if there aren't donations and he has to pay for it out of his own pocket. And all he is doing is making sure sex offenders that are supposed to be registered are registered, and that they are living and working where they say they are.

Does this guy work or volunteer? If he works, who pays the workers comp insurance on him? Who pays the employment taxes on him? Who pays for his equipment? If he volunteers, just how much "enforcement" power does he have and who is going to back him up if his "enforcement" goes wrong and he gets sued?
This just does not smell right............report abuse

Raymond, who retired from public service in 1992, was offered the enforcement position by Liberty after Liberty was elected Sheriff. He works free of charge about 15 hours a week, relying on donations from individuals and businesses in the area.
