I have a cousin that has been on welfare for 18+ years.

She has never worked a day in her life.

However, I got a new tidbit of information this past weekend about her. And I just had to laugh.

She has already screwed her 11 year old's life forever. For 4 years her kid has been given a prescription of ritalin. He has never taken one pill, she sells them. Now 4 state psychologists are telling her he is bipolar and needs new meds. She's had the prescription for 4 months. She won't fill it, because she won't get her ritalin anymore.

Where is the accountability?

These people are on state assistance because they are irresponsible, both financially and personally.

We really think if we give them a wad of cash each month that they are going to do the right thing?

For the sake of the children, remove them from homes like these!report abuse

You know momof4, you have a point there. Several in fact.
I remember when a kid had to be potty trained or they weren't allowed to start school. Now they say it will hurt their self esteem. If anyone believes that, I have a bridge to sell you.
Where there's a will, there's a way. I saw it with my mother. Divorced with 2 young children. Never any welfare, none available back then. She worked hard and supported us because she knew we were hers and therefore, her responsibility.report abuse

SL, thanks for "clearing" up the bit about fuzzy math.
No wonder almost all of the HS students who go on to college have to take remedial math!!
Noooowwww I get it.
