Actually, NH NH, angusmom, taxpoor are all wrong. I'll tell you exactly why more people are going to community colleges. As a 2008 graduate of the KVCC (Education~Speech and Language program)I landed a job with full benefits in my field within 6 months of graduating. Kids don't want to pay for a 5ok + university degree and go for 4+ years and then not be able to get a job upon graduating when they can go for 2 years or less and get a degree for about $5,000 and get a good paying job in MAINE. I know women my own age that have masters and/or bachelor degrees in interpretative dance, poetry or English and are working at minimum wage jobs. Educators in high school push UMAINE way tooooooo much. Smaller schools are cheaper, and job placement is guaranteed. I tried to take ONE class at UMA and it was almost $800.00. That is why community colleges are growing in population.report abuse

I would like to say that KVCC in Fairfield added more online classes for the spring semester in an effort to accommodate more people who are looking to get higher education.

I am taking two classes a semester on top of working a full-time and a part-time job in hopes of advancing my career. The flexibility that the online classes at KVCC gives me is tremedous.

I have had one professor in particular that accepts every waitlisted student into her online classes. She is excellent and gives each student the time and attention needed to make sure you understand the material.

And "NO", I don't work for the community college system.report abuse

I guess the kids are preparing for jobs in other states, since Maine will never get its act together to offer decent jobs to its citizens.report abuse
