Its a difficult question......we certainly don't want people getting "rich" while serving in the legislature, we don't want compensation to be a detriment that keeps people from wanting to provide the service lest we risk having a legislature full of wealthy individuals that fails to maintain a broad state wide view on key issues.report abuseyep sucks

What's the problem? The money is coming from savings from moving patients from mental institutions out to the streets.report abuseEllenW

An existing law, not anything passed by this legislature, says that automatic raises go to the legislators.
When asked about it leadership says "everything is on the table" when looking at budget cuts ... in case you didn't understand that, it means they were already planning to consider canceling this raise as one of many items being looked at to save money.report abuse

Is there some rule that the majority of people who comment are not allowed to actually ready the story they are commenting on?
