This is crap. We already provide individuals with way, way too much. Food stamps, section 8 housing, welfare, medicaid, AFDC, you name it, it sounded good, so it got voted in, the politician who proposed it stayed voted in, and now we are all saddled with paying for it and they STILL want more programs.
Enough already!report abuse

If people are willing to fork over their entire paychecks, I am sure government would be willing to set up programs to take care of all of us. What happens when even that is not enough?

The solution is a National Health Care Program, funded by the income tax, NOT individual or employer premiums.
How many of the current lay-off could be avoided if employers had the albatross of employees' health insurance off their necks?
With a national health care system, Americans could have seamless health care ANYWHERE in the country, employed at a big company or not. No more worries about getting stuck with a big bill if you stray outside the "provider network." No more worries that a procedure funded in one state might not be available in another.
Private health insurance companies are a SCAM designed to milk as many of our health care dollars from the system as they can. Americans can do better.report abuse

Snowe is on the right track with her call for universal health care. We need to scrap the current Byzantine system of health insurance companies, with their ridiculous "provider networks" and built-in incentive to increase their profits by denying as much health care as possible.

All of you people who criticize universal health care have one thing in common - you have insurance - probably paid for by someone else

The only people who have insurance paid for by someone else are those individuals on Medicaid and Medicare (and Dirigo here in Maine). Those of us whose employers contribute to their insurance earn those contributions through work. Insurance contributions are part of compensation, they aren't just giving it to us for nothing in return.report abuse
