KV- what a lame excuse you are. Either thank the troops or state your political diatribe. But don't you one as an excuse for the other.

By the way, will you still be all warm and fuzzy when sometime, in the next ten years, you wake up to find that some of our cities are in cinders? Oh yeah, that's right it'll be Bush's fault.

As an eye-witness to the attack on the World Trade Center, I realize how men and women of Maine are called, once again, to their finest hour. I am proud of our country, of what these men and women represent, of the cause that they serve. The World Trade Center was not "an event," it was a real act of war, a war that must be fought in a way that we don't yet fully understand. This is a war fought from afar, from the side. It is war against a new form of fascism. Our enemy lurks in the shadows, strikes from behind. In twenty years, we may not have the strength and resources to win. Hail to all men and women from Maine who serve in the vanguard. National service, today, is different than ever before. There are losses; there is hardship. There is the horrible burden which we must bear. Each one hurts just as badly as the one before. I recall the frantic families in New York, the thousands of leaflets taped to street poles begging for any word about loved ones. Maine takes on a responsibility. Seeing with my own eye; there can be no denial, no second-hand rationalization, just a responsibility to pass on the experience. I was left witness to an evil, to glimpse our nation held hostage. I pray for our nation's leadership, for God's wisdom to guide us forward. I was helpless that day to make a difference; those who now make a difference have my unconditional support. We do have the courage to fight for the future. Our State motto, "Dirigo," I (Maine) will lead the way.

I support the lives of the young men and women who have been sent to Iraq under false pretenses. I pray for their safe return. It's unforgivable that so many have died needlessly. We need to show our support by demanding that the remaining troops come home alive. This war is an assault on all living things...humanity, wildlife and our precious environment. I thought by now - year 2006, the human race would be a more evolved species...that wisdom would be sought to resolve our differences, rather than war. It's time for a higher consciousness and a higher standard of leadership. Bring our troops home now!
